I went to an adoption info session yesterday where the current wait times were discussed.
According to our agency, the wait time will reach at least 3 years and likely more.
For us, this means at least another year of waiting and maybe 2 or more. Apparently the CCAA is unwilling to make any projections beyond saying that the wait will be over 3 years, that everyone who is patient will eventually be referred a child, and that we should maintain a positive outlook.
There was much talk about how there are fewer child abandonments and a marked increase in domestic adoption within China - I think this is a good thing. On the other hand, the presenter spoke at length about how there is no slowdown, just a huge surge of demand for babies.
I thought it truly odd that nobody seemed to notice the contradictory statements.
If there are in fact fewer children being abandoned, and if there truly has been an increase in domestic adoption, how can the number of children processed through the system remain constant? I would expect fewer abandonments and more domestic adoption to result in fewer children available for International Adoption.
This journey is full of contradictions, half-truths (or maybe incomplete truths) and things that make me feel a little uncomfortable.
Apparently, some prospective adoptive parent recently posted an email from my agency on the Rumor Queen site, causing our agency director a small conniption that she glossed over, except to mention that in the future, should anyone want to post on a non-agency-sanctioned site, to ask the agency and they will “prepare a document for posting”.
Hmm, everyone seems to want to control the flow of information. I wonder why?
