by Ruben on Jul.06, 2005, under Archive
I’ve started biking to work again today.
Tire went almost flat.
Hard time finding a spot to park.
It was great.
It's time to get the bike out

and back into use.
The days are getting warmer and sunnier and I am itching to get back on the road.
This year, I will take pictures along the way. If I get anything interesting, I’ll post it.
My Green Experiment day 12 or so..

So far so good.
I’m averaging about 8 to 10 kilometers a day. About 20 minutes each way. Long enough to get some cardio, short enough to not be an ordeal.
I guess this makes it official – I’m an aging hippie.
Or not.

Great!
I replaced the bike with a Trek 820- a solid starter bike that looks like this:
Today was windy, gray, and a little cold. (note to self, get bike gloves)
The actual commute is actually pleasant once you get used to the rampant motorist hostility toward bikes.
I’ll be sure to let you know when that happens. So far, it feels like I’ve got a target on my back.
My Green Experiment day 1

I already use public transit to commute to work, but I’ve decided to go a bit more green and start cycling to work.
So, bought the bike yesterday, test rode it, everything OK. This morning, I found out just why the bike was such a bargain;
The derailleur came off the back of the bike and the chain fell off as I was crossing a very busy street during rush hour.
I managed to put the _thing_ back together and even made it in on time. Of course, more of the same on the way home.
Tomorrow, the bike goes back to Cheap Retail Store and I will get a bike from Serious Bike Shop with actual Customer Service.
I plan to cycle to work every day this summer, rain or shine. Now, how do I manage the clothing situation? I doubt I can cycle in a suit, certainly not in July.
Well, not if I want to keep the suit anyway.
More on My Green Experiment next week.
